FREQUENTLY-ASKED QUESTIONS (FAQs)

Is there an office I can come to?
This is a traveling, housecall and officecall service, where a NYC notary will meet you at your Manhattan home, office, local cafe or other location of their choice.

What is a mobile notary public?

A mobile notary is just like a regular notary except that a NYC mobile notary travels to the Manhattan, NY location of your choice to notarize your documents. In addition to the $2 fee allowed by law for each notarization, mobile notaries in NY are permitted to charge a travel fee.

How much notice do you need?
While same-day appointments can be accommodated, if you need a specific time, you should try to call as much in advance as possible. It's best to just call to see if we can accommodate you.

Do I need to personally be there to have my document notarized?
Yes, the law requires that the signer of the document be present. No exceptions.

How long does the process take?
For most NY notary jobs, the actual notarizing takes just a few minutes. Wills and loan documents can take longer.

What is an "apostille"?
A NY "apostille" is a form of authentication issued by the New York Secretary of State that is attached to foreign-bound documents for use by countries that participate in the Hague Convention of 1961. For more information on how we can help you with this process, click on the "apostille" link in the upper left corner of this page.

SUBJECT OF THE MONTH: Notarizing Foreign Documents

There is a wide-spread belief that NY notaries cannot notarize documents that are in a foreign language. As long as the NY notary can communicate with the signer directly (without a translator) and the signer's signature, the notary wording and the notary's stamp are in English, there is no problem with the content of the document being in a foreign language. It is recommended that there also be a brief English title describing what the document is at the top corner of the first page. The notary is not responsible for understanding, certifying or authenticating the contents of the document.
